In summary:
Disc and joint degeneration are common as
we age. Often these processes are not painful; however, consequent
lumbar spinal stenosis and facet syndrome can be associated
with pain and disability. Aggressive conservative management
can reduce pain and disability in may cases, and return the
individual to a better quality of life.
The following exercises are not for all
conditions.
Do not perform them unless advised by your
physician or physical therapist.
1A)
Single knee to chest
Lying on your back, bring 1 knee to chest. Hold for count
of 5 Repeat 10 times.
1B) Knees to chest
Lying on your back, bring knee(s) to chest, one or two at
a time. Hold for count of 5. Repeat 10 times.
2)
Partial Curl-Up
Lying on your back with knees bent, curl head and shoulders
up slowly. Hold for count of 5.
Repeat 10 times.
3)
Pelvic Tilt
Lying on your back with knees bent, squeeze your buttocks
together, pull in your stomach
and press low back into bed. Hold for count of 5. Repeat 10
Times.
